When we tried focusing on finding non-GMO foods a few years ago, it was much harder than it is today. Now, we can find pretty much anything (and, hopefully, the labeling is honest!) including delicious snacks such as chips. While we try to eat healthy, we do like to have something crispy with sandwiches at lunchtime on a regular basis.
I understand that not everyone cares whether they are avoiding genetically modified organisms in their food. It’s a personal choice. If you are looking for something tasty and crunchy with that little blue label, here are some options!
Trader Joe’s Ghost Pepper Potato Chips
Don’t let the name scare you. Yes, these chips have a little kick to them but Trader Joe’s has mellowed out the heat considerably. The flavor is really, really good and the lattice cut is fun. Kids who eat spicy food should be just fine with these also. They go perfectly with sandwiches and the bag was nice and full.
Paqui Nacho Cheese Especial
If you love Doritos, these are a great alternative! Instead of the processed flavor, however, the cheese on these tastes fresh. They are perfect with a sandwich and some greats but also with a nice lunch quesadilla or burrito. I think we could eat these all day every day. They also has a Salsa Verde variety and they are EVEN BETTER!!!
Since the brand is trying to gain recognition, we’ve found many Buy One, Get One Free coupons on sites such as coupons.com. Give it a try, they are worth it!
Paqui Haunted Ghost Pepper
Remember all the reassuring things I said about the Trader Joe’s Ghost Pepper Potato Chips? That does NOT apply to the Paqui brand! If you want smoke coming out of your ears, pick up a bag. Otherwise, skip them unless you are really sure you can handle it. I love spicy food – our whole family does. Not just passively, either. I can handle spice.
When I ate the first one, I noticed a bit of burning on my tongue and in my nose but ate a second chip anyway. And a third. My eldest son ate five or six. I became dizzy. I was sweating. It took about three hours for my mouth to stop burning. He felt weak. My daughter, the person who can handle spice best, tried two and regretted it.
I know this brand has another variety called the Carolina Reaper Madness Chip. It’s so spicy that they just sell one chip. In a case shaped like a coffin. Yeah, I’ll pass.
