As temperatures warm, we’re more and more likely to discover unwanted pests in our homes, and nobody likes that! Want to repel these nasty critters in an all-natural and safe way? Try these different approaches for your unwanted guests.
Essential oils such as peppermint, tea tree, clove, or citrus (lemon, orange, or grapefruit) can be dabbed around entry points on a cotton ball to help deter or kill unwanted ant invaders. You can also use ground cinnamon, coffee grounds, or chalk as barriers that ants are unlikely to cross.
Get some cotton balls and drop a few drops of citronella oil on each cotton ball. Also consider adding peppermint oil or lemongrass as well. Then place the cotton balls in trouble areas such as cupboards or under the sink. You can also make a spray solution by adding a half cup of water and 5 drops of cypress essential oil and 10 drops of peppermint oil. Spray the solution wherever the cockroaches appear.
For your own dust mite repellent spray, try mixing either Clove, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Peppermint or Rosemary oil into a spray bottle of water and use it to mist your bed lightly. Allow the spray to air dry. Mites detest these scents and will stay away from them. For additional pest control, try a mixture of Basil and Lemongrass to not only repel dust mites, but also fleas and lice.
Get a bowl and place a handful of dried cloves in it. Sprinkle a few drops of clove oil, lavender oil, and citronella oil or peppermint oil on the dried cloves. Add the oils again regularly. Place in areas where flies may come or linger such as front or back doors, the kitchen, or near the garage.
For this fruit fly trap, you will need a bottle or other kind of container with a shaker or funnel shaped top, so that flies can get in but not out. Fill the bottom of the bottle with apple cider vinegar or vinegar and chopped apple pieces and get rid of that buzzing in your ear.
Place a few drops of peppermint, eucalyptus or spearmint oil on some cotton wool balls and position in the ceiling or where you suspect mice are entering the house. This is said to deter mice but it may not work effectively if you have a serious infestation.
Put a few drops of citronella oil or lemongrass oil in an oil burner. Using a citronella candle works well too. Get a ribbon and place five drops each of citronella oil, lemongrass oil, peppermint oil, and lavender oil on the ribbon. Hang the ribbon from doorways, patio, or a window.
